map of the presidential election
In Alaska, several electoral districts are combined to get closer to the usual administrative division, used for example to the population census.
In Virginia, for reasons of clarity and overall coherence, the Independent Cities are combined with the counties from which they arise.
For 2004, of the 313 085 votes cast in Alaska, 17 494 are not distributed by electoral districts or groups of districts such as mapped above and therefore not taken in account in the map though included in national totals.
