ALABAMA, ARKANSAS, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI, NORTH CAROLINA, TENNESSEE, TEXAS: no republican candidacy.
NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, RHODE ISLAND: fusion list of opponents in Lincoln, mostly with men of Douglas, which reduces the number of lists to two: Republican against opponents coalition.
PENNSYLVANIA: almost complete fusion of all Republican opponents on a list dominated by Southern Democrats.
TEXAS: minority participation of Douglas supporters to the Constitutional Unionist list, which reduces the number of lists to two: Southern Democratic against Unionist expanded.

In Virginia, for reasons of clarity and overall coherence, the Independent Cities are combined with the counties from which they arise.
